The question is, why? What made it so popular? Was it Heath Ledger's death, the good acting, or the plot? It believe it was all of the above and more. Some interesting things to note would be the incredible and disturbing realism of Heath Ledger's portrayal of the joker. There is rumor that he died of drug overdose that could have related to his unstable condition. One of the messages in the movie seemed to be: 'prepare for the chaos that is to come'. Apart from the incredible plot, special effects and outstanding performances (including one being to the ultimate degree of absolute tragedy)the film has some excellent social comments and lessons in how bizarre and complex morality really is. The bit with the two boats is just excellent and classic Joker taken to the extreme. Well at least it is a film that really deserves to be a smash hit. Batman seemed to always stand out in my mind in that he had no super powers. No radio-active spider bites or extraterrestrial status.
