Invisibility is the state of an object which cannot be seen. An object in this state is said to be Invisible (literally, “not visible”). The term is usually used as a fantasy/science fiction term, where objects are literally made unseeable by magical or technological means; however, its effects can also be seen in the real world, particularly in physics and perceptional psychology. Ever since I was young, way before I ever even heard of the scarred Potter boy, I wanted to be invisible. The other kids wanted to fly, but I wanted to be invisible. I am not sure where I got the notion, but I thought it was awesome. I mean I could do things that others couldnt see me doing. Now now you pervs, I meant I could prank people. (No my wish for invisibility didnt come from the want of super powers, but from the will to annoy others) If my research is right, HG Wells wrote the first well read Invisibility book, The Invisible Man.
What I find it quite funny is that while in the Science Fiction Sphere we refer to “Cloaking Devices” in Fantasy a real life “Cloak” is a common feature (ala Harry Potter). Any way, it seems today two German scientists have managed to create a merger of reality with science fiction and fantasy, by successfully cloaking a “bump” on a gold surface.
Ok, so no biggie right? One step for man…HG Wells, Invisibility, science fiction and fantasy, The Invisible Man
