At the end of the first film he stated "about 30 years, its a nice round number". Nobody knows the exact date that Doc went to because we're never told, all we know is that Doc found out about the trouble that Marty's family was in and backtracked it all to the robbery in 2015. For all we know Doc did travel to 2010, then went further ahead to see what else happened, and found out about Marty's family then, and tracked it back to 2015.
