Ridley Scott has been planning to bring the Joe Haldeman book, The Forever War to the big screen. The science fiction novel serves as an allegory for the Vietnam War. It seems that this is a few steps closer to reality as Joe recently let the writer’s identity drop:

Andrew, anybody can write a script for any book, especially THE FOREVER WAR,
but it might not be a productive use of one’s time. Scott has a script; last
I heard, it was the fourth rewrite. I’ve talked to the writer — he has good
credits, like “Unforgiven.”

Unforgiven was written by David Webb Peoples, who has also worked on films such as Leviathan, The Blood of Heroes, Fatal Sky, Twelve Monkeys and Soldier. Since Ridley Scott has been the director of the all time mega favourite Scifi Thriller Bladerunner, it seems that we may be in for a treat if this film does get made.

Well the third and last episode of The Lost Room miniseries aired yesterday evening concluding the mysterious drama.

The miniseries centred around detective Joe Miller who lost his daughter in The Lost Room and tries to track down objects from the room that held magical properties in an attempt to retreive his daughter.

The miniseries also featured various cabals that vied for the objects placing the detective in danger.

After watching the final episode i really hope that they turn this drama into a fully fledged series. The last episode did clear up some of the mysteries but also left a few unanswered questions and the possibility of a continuation.

The miniseries created a world of mystery, suspense and possibilty and the chacters were well thought out and interesting enough to keep you wanting to know more.

I really hope that we get a chance to revisit the Detective and The Lost Room.

Heroes, the latest smash hit show to rock the US, will be debuting on the Uk’s Sci-Fi channel on February 19th. The show centres around a group of ordinary people who gain extraordinary powers. There’s a cheerleader with the ability to recover from bodily injuries or disease at a superhuman rate, a Tokyo programmer who can affect the flow of time and a Los Angeles police officer with the ability to hear other people’s thoughts among others.

The Heroes become involved in each other’s lives as they learn how to master their individual powers and save mankind from destruction. The series’ antagonist, Sylar, is tracking and killing super-powered humans and the heroes must evade his attempts at capture.

When the series premiered in the United States on NBC, it was the night’s most-watched program among adults 18-49 and attracted an audience of 14.3 million viewers and received the highest rating for any NBC drama premiere in five years

The BBC have also acquired the rights for terrestrial viewing and will air the series after it has been shown on the Sci-Fi Channel.

In recent surveys by Dittmar Associates Inc carried out in 2004 and 2006, it was revealed that vast amounts of 18- to 25-year-olds in the US were indifferent to manned trips to the moon and mars. What worries Nasa is that this apathy may have a negative impact for future space projects. Their taxes are going to be paying for the billions of dollars needed to send humans skywards out into space.

However Nasa is seeking to reverse this apathy and connect with younger minds. Several ideas have been brought forward that nowadays every single pr and advertising company is trying to exploit. They’ll bring out podcasts that upload videos to youtube (to jostle with hundreds of “Moon landing fake videos”).Â
Â
Nasa even hopes to bring on board celebrities hoping that a recognisable face will get through as well as forming partnerships with youth related media such as MTV and any other bastions of youth.
Â
2006 was a big year for films based on comic books and 2007 is set to continue the trend with a whole host of new movies. In particular a number of marvel franchises are to get the big screen treatment and those already established such as Spiderman, are set to get sequels.Â
Â
Ghostrider starring Nicholas Cage will be released in early ‘07 and sees Cage as Johnny Blaze (aka Ghostrider) a motorcycle stunt rider who sells his soul to Mephisto, a being of pure evil not dissimilar to Satan.
Â
The third and perhaps final instalment of the Spiderman franchise (at least with Toby Maguire) returns in May. This time Spiderman must track down the man responsible for his Uncle’s death as well as fight a symbiotic alien life force that bonds with Spiderman. Though the alien enhances Spiderman’s powers it also brings out the worst in him.  He also has to contend with former friend, Harry Osbourn, who seeks revenge for the death of his father, the Green Goblin.
Â
The Fantastic four return this year in The Rise of the Silver Surfer. The four enigmatic superheroes must battle the Silver Surfer, the herald of a planet-consuming alien called Galactus. There is also expected to be a return of Dr Doom, the villain from the previous film. The Rise of the Silver Surfer is scheduled to be released on June 15th.

“‘I’ve done daily journals for every day for 40 years. So once I got the contract and they said, “Ok, we want you to write this book.” I thought that was terrifying.
