Rene Auberjonois on Odo and Deep Space Nine

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

odo.gifThe latest issue of Star Trek Magazine is out in the UK and it the actor who played Odo has some interesting takes on the show. The magazine reports on the Odo Quark relationship “I would have to say that in real life, Armin [Shimerman] is probably more Odo to my Quark. The truth is, we have a way of sort of jousting and joshing each other if we’re out hiking or if we go to dinner or if we’re just talking on the phone. Armin can tend to be wonderfully sarcastic with me, which I think was one of the things Odo did towards Quark.”

Connor Trinneer Speaks out over the last Enterprise Episode

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

Trek WConnor Trinneer.jpgeb have a in interesting report on Connor Trinneer’s views of the last episode of Enterprise, later renamed Star Trek Enterprise . It seems that there were some unhappy cast members on the starship NX-01 Enterprise, when it was revealed they could have no input in the story line.

“I was more bothered, and I think we were as a cast more bothered, by the fact that the episode itself was sort of taken from our hands and ultimately made as a Next Generation episode,” said Trinneer onstage. “That really bothered us. I think that, you know, we felt as though we’d done all this work, and devoted four years of our lives to this show that, at the very end… I don’t really know what they were thinking, quite frankly.
“I love Jonathan Frakes and Marina [Sirtis], they’re fantastic people, great actors — but we really sort of felt like, ‘Let us put it to bed,’ and we were unable to do that.”

With regards save enterprise he said “I don’t think that Paramount ever, for a moment, was considering a season five … Save your money, I mean, it’s hard enough out there’

A Real Batleth ceased by police

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Batleth.jpgIn the UK, the Sun newspaper is reporting on a Batleth, aka the Klingon weapon of choice, has been ceased by police.

The terrifying Batleth weapon is identical to one wielded by Klingon aliens in the Star Trek sci-fi films.

Officers seized the three-handled sword — which has huge pointed blades at either end — at a home in Gloucester.

It was shown yesterday at the start of a five-week national knife amnesty. Cops hope 30,000 blades will be handed in, with owners free from prosecution.

sisko.jpgIn the Uk & Ireland the latest Star Trek magazine (official) has been released and continues with it’s official review of the 40 years of Star Trek. This time the focuse is on Deep Space Nine, the darker, and very well written show which spanned seven years. It features interviews with Nana Visitor, Rene Auberjonois and Rick Berman. Sci Fi Pulse has a review of the magazine here

“We wanted an African American lead. We felt it would be a good thing to do. But we wanted the right actor and if we couldn’t find an actor we felt was right for the character of Benjamin Sisko, we would have gone Hispanic, white or whatever. We read actors from India. We read a number of actors from France and Belgium. We read Black and White and Hispanic actors for the role, but we were hoping we could find somebody who was African American who would work, and we felt we did when we met Avery Brooks.”

Interview with - Rick Sternbach designer of USS Voyager

Sunday, May 21st, 2006
Pdvd_076.jpg

The ufpcroatia has an interview with Rick Sternbach, who talked about his Star Trek career. He is the man responsible for the USS Voyager and DS9. Here is a short extract of the interview:

Favorite Star Trek Series? I’d have to say TNG; it was the closest thing we did to what I would consider literate media science fiction.Favorite Star Trek movie? The Wrath of Khan is definitely my choice there. It had the right combination of characters, plot, science fiction elements, and unique Star Trek look.Favorite episode? That’s a tough one, because there are so many good ST episodes from the different series. Maybe “Yesterday’s Enterprise” because of some of the reasons I just mentioned above. It had a good SF “hook” with the twisted timeline, good characters in a strange situation, and fun spaceship action. Kirk or Picard? Hey! Not fair!

J.J. Abrams to Produce “Trek XI”

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

ent37.jpgAccording to the official Star Trek website the producer of Alias and Lost will produce the new Star Trek film. And it will most lightly will not star the ‘Next Generation’ cast. Nobody seems to know what it will be about, but of course there is plenty of rumors flying about the internet. In an interview the now famed producer said:

“The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation,” Abrams is quoted by Empire Online yesterday. “People learned that I was producing a Star Trek film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumors of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate.”
In addition to clarifying that he may or may not direct the film, Abrams also distanced himself from Variety’s report that the plot of “Star Trek XI” would revolve around a young James T. Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy. “We’ve made a pact not to discuss any specifics,” he said.
